Eagle River-Land O’ Lakes Bike Route

Escape the ordinary on beautiful woodland roads

For generations, travelers have escaped to the natural beauty of Land O’ Lakes. Miles of forested byways surround Land O’ Lakes; think of them as your escape route. These roads have little traffic and they will take you into beautiful forests and past clear, sparkling lakes. It’s some of the best bicycling in the state.

Some great road riding in the Land O’ Lakes area can be found to the south. You can pick up the 22-mile Eagle River-Land O’ Lakes Bike Route 5.5 miles west of Land O’ Lakes. You’ll see a small parking area at the trailhead and additional parking is available 1.1 miles west at Forest Lake Road.

Once on the route you’ll follow County Highway S to quiet, well-marked forest roads to the south, passing numerous beautiful lakes. The ride is relatively easy with some gentle hills. At the south end of Hunter Lake you’ll pass a park area with restroom and picnic facilities. There’s also a nice beach at the lake. Continuing south, you’ll reach the southern end of the trail at the intersection of Highway 45 and Highway G in Eagle River. You can ride part of this route for a shorter outing and there’s enough riding to keep long-haul cyclists happily occupied all day. You might want to bring some extra water along in case you ride further than you intend: once you escape onto these roads, you won’t want the day to end.
