Biking beyond
From the moment you turn onto this route, you’ll know you’re on a special ride. Just west of Land O’ Lakes is the Eagle River-Land O’ Lakes Bike Route. This 22-mile ride is an escape from mundane riding, meandering south through the towering trees of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. It’s a beautiful route that’s perfect for a summer ride.
The route is entirely on the roads, but it’s not a place with heavy traffic. Mornings are especially tranquil. On still summer days, you’ll likely hear more songbird calls than car motors. You’ll travel through some heavy forest – the trees provide a beautiful backdrop for the ride and on warm days offer welcome shade. The roads are well marked, the road is smooth and the hills are gentle, so it’s possible to log some distance without much effort. If you ride all the way to Eagle River and back, you’ll cover 44 miles. You can ride part of the route for a worthwhile shorter outing.
At the end of the ride, refuel with a relaxing meal at a Land O’ Lakes restaurant. You’ll find great options near the route on County Highway B at the Forest Lake Country Store and the Black Oak Inn.
