Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce
Year around enjoyment can be found in the Lake Gogebic area, the largest inland lake in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan with 13,380 acres of prime fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass, jumbo perch and northern pike. Thousands of dollars in prizes are awarded during the fall fishing tournament. Located in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties, the region is a great place to hunt deer, bear and small game. The million-acre Ottawa National Forest as well as the 21,000 acre Sylvania Wilderness surrounds the Lake Gogebic area providing endless opportunities for enjoying nature. In addition to Lake Gogebic, there are 1200 miles of rivers and streams and over 300 inland lakes and the area is dotted with hundreds of spectacular waterfalls and many great choices for scenic hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and some of the best fall colors in the world! The dark evenings are often lit up with Northern lights and stars that seem close enough to touch! We also have hundreds of miles of Multi-Use (including ORV) trails and our winter snowfall of up to 300 inches provides the best and most varied snowmobiling trails you can find. We’re proud to boast that the Upper Peninsula, and especially the western UP have consistently been voted #1 in SnowGoer Magazine throughout the years as the best place to ride!
